Right now, theories about the impact of tech­nology, globalization and demographic changes abound, but no one can predict the future. The world of work is evolving so quickly that new challenges and opportunities are emerging all the time. In this context, more and more organ­isations are questioning some of the most well-established HR and L&D practices. So what does the future look like for people professionals? What new approaches should we be considering? How do we build healthy, resilient and suc­cessful organisations that are fit for the future? The branch committee team is passionate about making sure the CIPD is here for you in Sussex throughout your professional journey, be it facilitating local networking opportuni­ties, organising great value CPD (continuing professional development) or enabling the sharing of knowledge and experience with other people professionals. She has been actively involved with the CIPD since 2006 when she joined the South East Thames Branch as Vice Chair, a position she held for 2 years before going on to serve a further 4 years as Chair. She was one of the founding Chairs involved with the formation of CIPD London before relocating back to Sussex in 2012. Currently Sarah is also a mem­ber of the Membership and Professional Development Committee. When not volunteering for the CIPD, Sarah runs her HR and OD Consultancy, Savvy People Management Ltd, spe­cialising in helping individuals and organisations Get Results and Maintain Relationships through the power of Savvy Conversations. SESSION 1—Opening Keynote: Better Work and Working Lives Creating a Profession for the Future With Laura Harrison, People and Strategy Director, CIPD Sharing insights from recent and ongoing CIPD research and wider business trends, Laura will discuss: What is meant by "professionalism" in 2016? From best practice to principles—a shift in perspective Future HR body of knowledge—what do we need to know? Laura's role at the CIPD as People and Strategy Director involves defining the CIPD's long-term content and research strategies and developing the CIPD's public policy positions and overall organisation strategy. From this long-term planning, Laura's team also ensures that the CIPD has the appropriate people and financial management in place to deliver on its plans. Laura has particular interest in the future of work and HR, organisation development and change. She holds a first degree in chemistry and postgradu­ate qualifications in law and tax and has worked at the CIPD since February 2011. Her earlier career was spent at Aviva and in various consulting roles with Ernst & Young and PwC. SESSION 2—Stream: The Science of Human Behaviour Using Neuroscience to Inform Learning and Development With Gary Luffman, Learning and Development Advisory Board Member at CIPD and Director of think.change Much is changing in how organisational learning is delivered and what organisations want/need from their employees' development. However there are some 'constants' the brain needs and responds best to that will help inform any learning and development practices. Gary will share essential insights from the world of neuroscience to help inform and strengthen Learning and Development practices in a changing world, including: Getting attention Holding on to it Adjusting habits Gary is an Occupational Psychologist and co-owner of think.change consulting, a firm specialising in the translation of neuroscience and psychol­ogy into practical tools and techniques in the workplace. Gary's focus is on helping organisa­tions to navigate change successfully and develop their workforce to meet customer and operating needs. This is achieved by bringing together neurosci­ence and psychology to develop tailored solutions and tools from this strong evidence base. Gary has a background in developing talent management and training solu­tions to support organisations strategies and goals. He is an experienced consult­ant, facilitator, assessor and coach who has designed and delivered courses for a wide variety of international audiences and clients. He is also a regular confer­ence and corporate events speaker to large audiences. Since 2008 Gary has also been an international design and delivery part­ner for the CIPD and is a member of the CIPD's Learning and Development Advisory Board. SESSION 3—Stream: HR and Learning Processes, Practices and Policies Tackling the changing environment for HR and Learning in the Hotel Industry With Danny Pecorelli, Managing Director of Exclusive Hotels and Venues, and Hotelier of the Year 2014 Danny will share elements of the HR Strategy for Exclusive Hotels and Venues, demonstrating how key HR and Learning and Development initiatives have impacted on the Group's ability to attract, retain and develop their staff, even through challenging economic times. Danny's career in hospitality began more than 26 years ago at The Savoy in London after graduating in Hotel Management from Cornell University. After London, Danny moved to the US to work with Sheraton Hotels before returning to the UK in 1991. As Managing Director of Exclusive Hotels and Venues, Danny is heavily involved in the day-to-day operations of the group and has a particular inter­est in developing and encouraging the hospitality talent of the future. He was wholly instrumental in getting the com­pany involved in The Edge Hotel School and the Ten out of Ten Hospitality Training Programme which involves ten hotels and restaurants outside London joining together to establish a training opportunity for anyone setting out on their career in the industry to become among the finest Hotel Managers in the British Isles. Such passion has also resulted in the launch of its Exclusive Chefs' Academy where aspiring chefs are given the opportunity to undertake an intensive training programme to learn in two years what might typically take five. The programme offers a wide range of expe­riences around Exclusive's many diverse and award-winning restaurants, exten­sive conference, banqueting and pastry kitchens and draws on the vast experi­ence of their talented chefs. Danny has been named Young Director of the Year by the Institute of Directors South and was voted Hotelier of the Year in 2014 by the Hotel Cateys. Exclusive now employs over 700 people, has an annual turnover of £49m and has secured the coveted title of being one of the 'Best Places to Work in Hospitality'. SESSION 4—Stream: Business, Commercial Insight and Analytics Understanding the way technology and analytics are already transforming the workplace  With Cailean Hargrave, Head of Education, Portal In his unique presentation style, Cailean will share his knowledge and experience of the way technology is impacting on jobs, people and organisations. In a lively and insightful session, Cailean will challenge HR to prepare for what the future has in store.  Spending his entire career working within and with the further educa­tion community across the UK, Brazil, Mexico, China, India, Australia and much of Europe, Cailean has deep knowledge of the learner journey and college operations. Holding roles within Student Support Management as well as being a visiting lecturer in 32 colleges across the UK, has provided front line experience in how institutes can work smarter to achieve richer outcomes for their learners. A member of the Enterprise M3 Local Enterprise Partnership, Government Advisor on technology in education and an accomplished speaker, Cailean deliv­ers shock value in a disruptive way and is often hard to forget! SESSION 5—Stream: The Changing Context of Work The changing context of work—insights and implications With Linda Holbeche PhD, Co-director, The Holbeche Partnership Drawing on her extensive research into the changing world of work Linda will examine key context trends and their likely implications for organisations, work and working lives. She will highlight specific contributions HR can make to equipping people and organizations to thrive in a context of ongoing change. Linda Holbeche PhD is an independ­ent consultant, coach, researcher and author whose areas of practice include leadership and sustainable high perfor­mance, organisation development and design, HR development and aligning HR with business strategy. Previously Research and Policy Director at the CIPD, Director of Leadership and Consultancy at the Work Foundation and Director of Research and Strategy at Roffey Park, Linda is an adviser to several boards and Visiting Professor at 5 UK universities as well as a Fellow of Roffey Park and of IES.  Refund Policy:-  A full refund will be issued if cancellation is made before 31 March 2016, 50% refund if cancelled before 30 April 2016.
