RSA & Midlands3Cities: Exploring the role of Arts and Humanities in Society
Do you want to get a fresh perspective on your field of work or interest? In this pilot event series we are inviting Fellows to meet current doctoral researchers investigating arts and humanities topics, which include: visual media; religion and civic relations; people, politics and the law; foreign exchanges; and modes of learning. As Fellows of the RSA, we are passionate about the contribution of the arts and humanities to today's society. Do you have insights from your own personal and professional experience that may help others? Would you be prepared to share the benefits of your insights with early career researchers in local universities? If so, we need your help. The Midlands RSA Fellowship is actively building connections with universities and postgraduate students in the region. We need Fellows to help by taking an interest in what these enthusiastic researchers are doing and to explore with them various ways they might make a positive contribution to society. It can be difficult for PhD students to see beyond their specialist area of study to the broader context and where this might take them in their careers and lives as citizens. We are asking for your support. So what's in it for you? You get to spend a fascinating early evening hearing new perspectives from active researchers on topics that interest you. You get to meet enthusiastic, highly skilled, intelligent individuals who may have skills and knowledge to contribute to your own projects or organisation. You may identify ways you could collaborate to develop your mutual interests - indeed it could lead to a work placement or a joint application for RSA funding. This collaborative event has been initiated by students of the Midlands3Cities Doctoral Training Partnership based in Nottingham, Leicester and Birmingham and funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council. Their research interests range broadly. Full details of the research areas can be viewed on the RSA website. Fellows, non-Fellows, postgraduate students of any university, and individuals with an interest, are encouraged to attend this free event. Refreshments will be available to stimulate your thinking.
