Whether you are a newbie looking to step it up to a longer distance event or a seasoned triathlete looking for an early season half to prime you for an upcoming Ironman, the Liberty Tri is for you! Both of our courses are USAT sanctioned and are sure to provide you with a safe, fun, and challenging race.
Liberty Triathlon and Lake Rebecca Park Reserve offer triathletes and their families more than just two great races. Bring the entire family out and spend the weekend fishing, boating, hiking, biking, paddle boating, canoeing, and more.Whether you're coming for the race and staying for the fun, or the other way around, the Liberty Triathlon is a great race at a spectacular park area.

Course Description
OLYMPIC COURSE
(1.5k Swim, 40k Bike, 10k Run)
Swim: Wetsuits will be allowed (and encouraged) per USAT rules and regulations. Participants will swim in a counter-clockwise direction around a triangular shaped swim course keeping all buoys to your left. Buoys will mark the course and there will be a lead kayak as well as boat and lifeguard support along the way. All participants will receive an official Liberty Triathlon swim cap which must be worn during the swim portion of the event. Participants will exit the water and traverse a short grassy stretch to the transition area where they mount their bikes.
Bike: The Olympic bike course is a challenging and scenic out and back 40K bike ride. (See below course maps and elevations). All bikers must have an ANSI approved helmet to participate and obey all Minnesota State Traffic Laws. Bikers without helmets will not be allowed on to the course. This is a USAT non-draft legal event with race marshals patrolling the entire course. All athletes must provide their own nutrition along the bike course. Course is well marked with road chalk, signs at all corners, volunteers, and Public Safety Officers.Run: The race concludes with a 10K. This course is an out and back run.
Long Course
(1.2mi Swim, 56mi Bike, 13.1mi Run)
Swim: Wetsuits will be allowed per USAT rules and regulations. Participants will swim in a counter-clockwise direction around a triangular swim course keeping all buoys on their left. The swim exit will provide competitors with excellent sightlines and with the tall trees in the background, little to no glare coming into the transition area. Buoys will mark the course and there will be a lead kayak as well as boat and lifeguard support along the way. All participants we'll receive an official Liberty Triathlon swim cap which must be worn during the swim portion of the event. Participants will exit the water and traverse a short grassy stretch to the transition area where they mount their bikes.
Bike: The Long course bike is a challenging and somewhat technical 56mi ride. All bikers must have an ANSI approved helmet to participate and obey Minnesota State Laws. Bikers without helmets will not be allowed on the course. This is a USAT non-draft legal event and race marshals will be patrolling the entire course. Outside assistance is not permitted. A sag wagon will be on the course to transport participants back to transition, but will not be able to offer mechanical assistance. Please come prepared with your own spare tubes and tools. 3 bottle exchange stations will be located along the course at approx. mi 10, 26, and 41. Water and HEED replenishment drink will be available at all bike aid stations courtesy of Hammer Nutrition. There will be an enforced bike time cut off of 12:30 pm. Participants not in the bike to run transition area by 12:30 pm will not be permitted out onto the run course.Run: The race concludes with a 13.1mi run, mostly paved, out and back trail run.
Awards
Amateurelites will have their own wave which will be the first wave of their race event.
All athletes are eligible for Overall Awards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for males and females in both the Olympic and Half Iron courses. Those people winning the Overall Awards will NOT be eligible to win Age Category awards, or awards for Athena or Clydesdale.
Age Category Awards will be given to the top three overall male and female finishers for all age groups: 19 & under, 20 - 24, 25 - 29, 30 - 34, 35 - 39, 40 - 44, 44 - 49, 50 - 54, 55 - 59, 60 - 64, 65 - 69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85+

All participants will receive a 2013 Liberty Tri T-Shirt, race packet goodies, and are eligible for our prize giveaways (must be present to win).
Award ceremonies will be near the finish line in the park. The Olympic race will be at 12:00 noon, with Door Prizes given away at about 12:15pm (except for the grand prize). The Half Iron will be at 3:00pm: awards will be at 3:00pm, with Door Prizes to be given away at about 3:15pm. The grand prize of a Gear West wetsuit and 5 gear bag will be given away immediately following the 3:15pm Door Prizes. You MUST be present to win.
