From initial conception through to the operation of the building, this course will provide an overview of the whole development and construction process. During the course delegates will gain an understanding of how to develop a construction or development project and project manage through the design, construction and operational phases. The course is designed to be interactive and will involve discussions about real life projects. The day will be structured to provide participants with a good understanding of the construction and development process, and as the course is skill based, delegates will develop project management, development management and business and professional skills. By the end of the course, each delegate should be armed with a clear understanding of a wide range of technical issues that need to be managed during a construction project. You will be able to: • Define the key stages of the development process from inception through to operation; • Recognise the roles and responsibilities of all the professionals involved in construction; • Confidently engage with construction and development professionals when discussing technical and contractual issues; • Apply key project management skills, and • Administer procurement, contractual and technical issues involved in the construction process. The course is relevant to the competencies of: commercial management of construction; project administration; risk management; procurement and tendering; project process and procedures; and programming and planning. It is relevant to the RICS Pathways of: Project Management, Facilities Management, Building Surveying; and Quantity Surveying and Construction. About the trainer Dr Calvin Keung is a chartered surveyor by profession and he gained substantial experience from an international consultancy firm before joining the City University of Hong Kong. Dr Keung is the course lecturer for BSc in Surveying, MSc in Construction Project Management and MSc in Civil & Architectural Engineering. Dr Keung has published research papers on topics relating to BIM project management and project networks in construction. He is also the author of a number of construction textbooks in Hong Kong. In addition, Dr Keung focuses on professional education and student career development. He has been awarded several teaching grants for education research and he is active in organising events to foster the linkage between academia and the industry. Dr Keung is currently the council member of buildingSMART Hong Kong and the convenor of the IFC working group.
